Kitsch

1) What is kitsch?
   ~ Kitsch is a work of art that are popular but that are considered to have no real artistic value and to be lacking in good taste. They are sentimental, glamorous, theatrical, and creative. Kitsch also can act as commercial purposes rather than works created as self-expression by an artist.
   ~ Kitsch art:

- kitsch has never been so popular.

Kitsch can be seen through a typology of the actions, adaptations, remakes and spurious utilization in this artwork. They are always damages of very prestigious works.
Kitsch also can be an element of display.

2) Is Malaysian culture now kitsch culture?
  ~ I think some of the Malaysian culture are in kitsch culture.For example, the idea of Ahmad Shukri Mohamed's art, he plays with kitsch objects and uses the basis of local culture and universal icons to present a contemporary picture about tourism.
  ~ It also imitation of high art. For example, Sunway Pyramid which being Malaysian's first themed shopping and entertainment mall, draws crowd with its trademark Egyptian pyramid facade.

3) Does it borrow from other cultures without its own originality and symbolic meaning?
  ~ Ya, such as Sunway Pyramid and Berjaya Times Square. Sunway Pyramid borrow from Egyptian whereas Berjaya Times Square borrowing glitz and glamour from New York.

4) If this is true, is it like other contemporary societies in this?
  ~ Ya,because it imitate the high art from other contemporary societies.

5) Kungyu hates and is also attracted to kitsch. What is your relationship to it?
  ~ Kungyu hates because of not satisfied of the design that not create by own creativity and cultures whereas for attracted to kitsch, it is because of the downplayed the formal structure of the artwork in favor of elements that enter it by relating to other spheres of life.
