Kitsch

1) What is kitsch?
   ~ Kitsch is a work of art that are popular but that are considered to have no real artistic value and to be lacking in good taste. They are sentimental, glamorous, theatrical, and creative. Kitsch also can act as commercial purposes rather than works created as self-expression by an artist.
   ~ Kitsch art:

Augustin Scott Demarttinville's plywood moosehead.
- kitsch has never been so popular.

Kitsch can be seen through a typology of the actions, adaptations, remakes and spurious utilization in this artwork. They are always damages of very prestigious works.

Kitsch also can be an element of display.

2) Is Malaysian culture now kitsch culture?
  ~ I think some of the Malaysian culture are in kitsch culture.For example, the idea of Ahmad Shukri Mohamed's art, he plays with kitsch objects and uses the basis of local culture and universal icons to present a contemporary picture about tourism.
  ~ It also imitation of high art. For example, Sunway Pyramid which being Malaysian's first themed shopping and entertainment mall, draws crowd with its trademark Egyptian pyramid facade.

  ~ Ya, such as Sunway Pyramid and Berjaya Times Square. Sunway Pyramid borrow from Egyptian whereas Berjaya Times Square borrowing glitz and glamour from New York.

4) If this is true, is it like other contemporary societies in this?
  ~ Ya,because it imitate the high art from other contemporary societies.

5) Kungyu hates and is also attracted to kitsch. What is your relationship to it?
  ~ Kungyu hates because of not satisfied of the design that not create by own creativity and cultures whereas for attracted to kitsch, it is because of the downplayed the formal structure of the artwork in favor of elements that enter it by relating to other spheres of life.

Architecture of classical/egypt/greek/roman

1) Examples of Greek/ Classical or Egyptian culture in Malaysia.

5) The pillars in Malaysia generally are for decoration rather than structural support. Why are these styles being used do you think? What is the psychological reason?

Both of the church implied shape in the building but the whole shapes of the buildings are different.The left side is Christ Church at Malacca Malaysia whereas the Holy Anargyroi Saints Kosmas & Damianos Greek Orthodox Church.The Christ Church have more rectangle shapes but Greek Orthodox Church have more triangle shapes.The Christ Church have less column than Greek Orthodox Church.The church building has many symbolic meanings.Perhaps the oldest and most prominent is the concept which the Church is Ark (as in Noah's) in which the world is saved from the flood of temptations.The Church building is divided in to three main parts: the narthex (vestibule),the nave and the sanctuary (also called the altar or holy place). For me, the columns is for act as window and doors purposes. 

This building implied Greek architecture which is Ionic order.This style is thinner and more elegant.The Ionic column is always more slender than the Doric and are most often fluted. The shape of cylinder pillars are simple and nice.

This is St George Church in Penang which implied the Greek architecture.This building implied the Doric order.The vertical columns were used to support the beams called architraves. It is simple and nice for me. 

The Shah Alam Arch Selangor Malaysia implied the Roman architecture which adopted certain of Greek architecture to creating  a new architectural style.There was implied hydraulics and in the construction of arches.The use of arches together with a sound knowledge of building materials which to enable them to achieve unprecedented successes in the construction of imposig structures for public use.

Sunway Pyramid shopping mall

This is the Sunway Pyramid shopping mall which implied and imitated from Egyptian culture. It is similar to the shape of Egypt's pyramid structure. I think the triangle shape is simple and at the center must be steady which not easily to fall.

Ai Wei Wei

Ai Wei Wei is a chinese artist and political activist which active in architecture, curating, photography, film, and social and cultural criticism. He is an artist who don't like China government's peoples. His father was a poet which present at this declaration of the Chinese state. Besides, he is also a vocal critic which against the China government and communist regime. He is the one of the designer design the Beijing National Stadium for the 2008 Summer Olympics, also known as the "Bird's Nest".Ai Wei Wei said that he love design so that he participated in the designing of the Bird's Nest in the first place. He also served as design consultation to Swiss architect.

The caption（草泥马挡中央, "grass mud horse covering the middle") to Ai's self-portrait sounds almost the same in Chinese as 肏你妈党中央, "Fuck your mother, the Communist party central comittee"


From this artwork of Ai Wei Wei, I feel that he is a brave man. He didn't feel shy and shamed. He just naked and snap a self-portrait of himself to produce an artwork.

Ai Weiwei's art thrives in London

Ai Weiwei's art exhibit opens in London while he remains in custody in China.

CNN's Atika Shubert reports.

Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads, 

located in the Pulitzer Fountain in front of the Plaza Hotel through July 15.

The fountain-clock featured the animals of the Chinese zodiac,each spouting water at two-hour intervals. During the Second Opium War the fountain-clock was destroyed and five of the animal heads were lost to time. Weiwei's twelve heads are cast bronze,each weighing about 800 pounds,and are set on bronze bases. The artist said that his work is always dealing with real or fake,authenticity and value and how value relates to current political and social understandings and misunderstandings, however,because Circle of Animals/Zodiac Heads is composed of animal heads,it's a work that everyone can understand,including children and people who are not in the art world.

The latest installation at the Turbine Hall at the Tate Gallery is in place.One hundred million hand-painted porcelain seeds by the Chinese artist Ai Wei Wei.

  ~  success in my working life.

3)Is history of art and design necessary do you think for your larger goals?
  ~  I think sometimes it will be necessary, it is because we can learn from the     previous artist's mistakes or their weak point and make a something difference compare with previous artwork.

4)Why I design my blog like this?
  ~  I put the design of calligraphy of Chinese words with a bit yellowish and brownish colours as my background to show it looks in old style. Besides, I use red colour in the words of blog title which set off the Chinese culture.
